Another rant

Let me begin by giving you an update on the weather here! The weather in Chicago is crazy. It was 21C (fabulous and sunny) a few days ago. It's -6C today! Arrrrghh.
One thing I continuously complain about the weather here (to poor Sanj, who listens patiently) is that figuring out what to wear is a longer process than normal (normal in Sri Lanka, that is)..
In addition to having to worry about whether the outfit is relatively colour coordinated, it's necessary to access the weather channel, find out what the weather (hot/ cool/ cold/ rain/ sunshine/ snow/ wind) is like right now, how it will change during the day, and what it will be like on the return home and dress appropriately. Two days ago, I stepped out of the house in the morning wearing a waterproof winter jacket, despite it being 15C outside, as it was supposed to be -5C and rainy at 10pm, which is the time I come home. It's so much easier back home...
On to something else. I've been crazy busy since I'm taking 3 classes (all involving team project work), working 3 days a week (for free, unfortunately) and working on a consulting project. I'm so glad I like cooking, coz if I didn't that would have contributd to the list of things I have to do, rather than being one of the things to do to chill out.
Matta and Sherry came over to our place a few days ago for a Sri Lankan brunch of Kiribath, Lunu Miris, Seeni Sambol and Chicken Curry (we made all- except the Lunu Miris- at home). We went to the neighbourhood ice cream store "The Brown Cow" afterwards. Matt and I had sundaes (mine was called Laura's strawberry field, which consisted of strawberries, granola, whipped cream and vanilla ice cream.. yum!) while Sanj and Sherry decided not to... We came home and watched Airplane (1 and 2, mind you) which was ok.... Not thaaat funny to me, but was hilarious to everyone else.. But then you know what my taste in humor is.. Beak at the knees etc :)
Running out now to the gym, and then to school. Later!

Winter in Chicago

So, I hear it's about 24C in Colombo. Is it nice, cool and comfy in Chicago? Err.. no! I just walked home from the train station (mind you, it's a 15 min walk) and almost froze to death. It's -22C here.. When Sanj and I were walking home last night, we were trying to keep our minds off the biting cold by talking about how nice it must be in SL... Futile? Yes...
Speaking of last night, Sanj and I went to the Oriental Theater to watch "Wicked". OMG, it was fabulous.. I highly recommend that you (yes, you!) go for it.. Elphaba is portrayed so well.. and Glinda's great too.
That's all..

Why does everyone expect miracles of me?

As a (not so) wise friend said recently, I am expected to work miracles simply because my reputation preceded me.. Which means that I am at fault for being thoughtful, helpful and wise.. Such are the responsibilites I am entrusted with.

Ok, I'm tired of being pseudo-intellectual already..

You know what I'm in the mood for? Being snooty. Yesh, Shaz, Vin, Rishani and Venu might remember the snob sessions- when we we used to ACT like snobs.. That was fun!

Onto more relevant topics, it's rather cold here in Chicago and I am convinced that I have "The Winter Blues". Maybe the 'blues' are more to do with a horrible Final (International Finance, fyi) that I just endured.. or maybe it's coz I miss SL.. or maybe its coz I've not eaten Sri Lankan food (more specifically 'pol sambol') in a while.. or because I miss my friends.. Nah.. It must be the weather..

I shall leave you with a quote from one of the most progressive thinkers of our time:

"Somewhere in communist Russia I'll bet there's a little boy who has never known anything but CENSORSHIP and OPPRESSION. But maybe he's heard about AMERICA, and he dreams of living in this land of FREEDOM and OPPORTUNITY! Someday, I'd like to meet that little boy... AND TELL HIM THE AWFUL TRUTH ABOUT THIS PLACE!!"
"Calvin, be quiet and eat the stupid lima beans."
